So, we're all here because we love poetry. Whether that be a hobby or something we're actively chasing! I want to get to know everyone here a bit better and thought I'd start an 'Other Hobbies' thread. What else do you Covers get up to?

My latest experiment:
I'm one of those hands in too many pots type of people. I write, working on two novels and a childrens book atm. I draw, mostly cartoon style. I've been trying to get back into urban sketching. I play/collect board games and table top games uncluding Dungeon Mastering TTRPGs. I do street photography. And most recently I have been learning to make Japanese herberiums.
You asked to see it. So here it is...
As you know if you read my introduction, one of my other creative outlets is ART - pastels (oil and soft), watercolors, acrylics, charcoal sketches, and mixed medium. I love abstract painting, flowers, ocean scenes, mountains, and rock formations. Today, I am sharing one of my oil pastel paintings - the one I said I was going to do today in the members video chat. It is a bit of an abstract because people who have seen it today have seen different things in it - some see mountains, some see waves, but I see Wings against a blazing, golden sky. It is titled "Give Me Wings" - Oil pastels, 5X7 on cold pressed paper. I took a close-up so you can see some of my techniques, unfortunately, it also made it a bit blurry sighs I need a better camera other than my cellphone camera.
Would love to see other people doing what they love away from poetry
Hey everyone. So some of you may know I like building things and gardening (my phone won’t load the rest of this thread so I may have posted my endeavours already)
anyway i started a new garden project. I found a hot tub reduced from £599 to £193 and couldn’t walk away, so I’ve been putting together a base for it and also some surrounding which will house the screening for pervy Pete neighbours.
The screens will be varying backdrops so depending on time of day and mood i will have a suitable backdrop. One will be the beach / Caribbean island, another will be the shire and then I’d I just want a neutral time to myself it’s gonna just be leaves.
im also gonna have one of those bendy garden umbrellas to the side so I can sit out in the rain or I’m the scorching heat, whilst also being able to put it down if I fancy star gazing at night.
anyway, been working on this for two days and here are my progress photos so far.
tub arrives Monday! I think this will do me good for some all too needed down time and relaxing space!
Another hobby of mine is visiting historical places. I’m a member of an organisation called National Trust here in the UK that looks after all these different heritage and historical places. Today was my first outing to an NT place and thought I’d share: Hatchlands Park and House
i love this idea!!
i have several hobbies outside of poetry. I love learning new things and trying things out.
my main hobby is music. Most of you guys know that I play the guitar and sing. I love folk and Americana/Bluegrass. I’ve been practicing some bluegrass to learn flatpicking and Travis picking and they are HARD. I’ve been strumming away for about 13 years…I’m pretty okay I guess. Latelt I’ve been learning the guitar part for this tune:

So if you didn’t think I was a nerd before, another hobby of mine is collecting 1/6 figures and memorabilia from film / TV sets I work on
I have a thriller Michael Jackson in storage too!
From left to right:
helmet webbing from The Monuments Men, first gig I ever did. Wedding ceremony order of service: Downton Abbey. I think it was Edith’s wedding? I’ll have to read it. Old English money and race course brochure (? I’m not sure. It’s a booklet of horses to put bets on.) Again from Downton Abbey. Shards of rubber glass and somewhere should be a bullet casing from Avenger’s age of Ultron. A fantastic week filming the scene where the city starts floating.
There are so many 1/6 figures I want to get from Hot Toys, but is an expensive hobby and I don’t really have the time to keep up with it all or invest in it. But am proud of the collection I have gained so far.
'our own New York at the end of the world.' Ugh, so poetic! Bravo! I would love to visit Aus one day! It's a must for sure!
These are so amazing Shen I love them! Picture 3 gives me serious venice beach vibes... I don't know why!
Hmm, if I was to rock up at a class tomorrow it would be... a butler course. I've been binging Downton Abbey actually and have played with the idea!
Thanks @Adam Gary! I'll post a few of my photographs down below! Thought I'd select some photos I took of my then-home in Fitzroy, Victoria. It's a special suburb to me, and it's home to many lovely memories. If you ever decide to visit Australia, Melbourne is a MUST-SEE. I describe it as our own New York at the end of the world.
The only courses I do take are in person, such as the painting classes and recently, a bath-bomb making class. I would highly recommend rolling up to random, creative classes if you're aching to try something new! Luckily for creatives like us, we can take a lot away from these kinds of classes and pursuits. What would you do first, if you were to book a class for something tomorrow?
That's correct! They found his bones under a car park and his curved spine proved that Shakespeare's account of R.III being a hunchback was actually true. Before then, historians comfortably accepted that it was a myth conjured up by Tudor loyalists. Talk about a plot twist...
I don't blame you- the discussions threads are a lot of fun :P I think that is where we laugh the most!
You're all very fascinating people. That's awesome! And damn Adam, that Red Dead Redemption cosplay is hella rad. I think could shoot anyone here and we'd just thank you.
I'll try and keep it concise but I also enjoy the following (in no particular order):
1. Video games (used to play a lot of fantasy RPG stuff (Skyrim, Dragon Age, etc.) but now keep it to Mario Bros and currently Pokemon Shining Pearl, despite never playing Pokemon before! I am enjoying it, though)
2. Art (drawing, using oil pastels, painting when I can)
3. 35mm photography which, if you follow me on IG as a few of you do, you may have noticed. I picked it up last year after our 2nd or 3rd major COVID wave was over.
4. Reading, reading, reading! Currently reading a fascinating, comprehensive biography on Richard III which has inspired a couple of poems recently, as you also may have noticed :P
5. Film-making occasionally, and preparing for an upcoming pitch with a producer (which isn't as exciting as it sounds, it's more of an induction into a one-on-one exclusive course.
6. Taking random classes (painting and bath bomb making). It's a fantastic way to pass the time and be productive! You gotta keep things spicy.
7. I think spending time on the Cove kind of counts, when we're not talking poetry! I enjoy posts and chats like this. Maybe one day we can all do it in person...
o I'll just list my hobbies for your viewing pleasure:
Cycle touring.
This is my newest hobbie. I've done a couple of 1000 km rides around Spain and as soon as the COVID madness disappears I'd like to spend a couple of months to ride through Spain and France to England
Climbing and Sea Rowing
I like doing these to keep in shape.
Gardening
Something I wish I had more time to do.
Procrastinating
This is probably my favourite pastime...
... Or maybe drinking
Comic Con??????
Have not been to convention in years.
However, remember last one was incredible to experience,as I did learn alot and would love to come there again, probably as a performer there or something.
So not so much going into,as these hobbies are either I already done or will do,so lets kick off the list.
Video games:The last game I've play was a game call Tales of Hearts R,I always wanted to play this game and Tales of Innocence, different games from same series. And after I finish the game, never touch one again. Will say, thanks to Switch and PS5,I do plan on picking up the controller again in the future, probably pick up Castlevania, play a demo on my broken Nintendo 3DS,and would pick up a Switch, since Switch has ALOT of games I would love to play.
Dancing:I actually thought of break dancing and never pursue. Its so fun to just dance and release.I'm quite impress with dancers who are very choreograph, because I find that to be most fun.Organize chaos.
Watching Films:They're adventures to be on.I've been on quite an adventure this week.Won't describe them,as this list is as long as it is,however, there are three films that rejuvenate my love for film again. And one of them is in my top three for films of my 2021,as I don't watch modern films.
Exercise:I use to exercise and then jump off. What can I say?Its apparent my career is so important my health goes down the drain.I can't make any promises of when I will work out again, most likely soon.
Cinematography:This, along with acting, are my main focus for next 90 days. After this week of film reviewing, and creating a podcast base on film,I plan to learn as much as I can about filmmaking.I love films, and always dreamt of making cinematic videos. So if I can't walk on red carpet anytime soon, since I will be traveling, why not be my own media production company and create Voetry films?Probably last shot I have in acting, unless I know any place that has an acting market in U.K not base in NYC or LA.
Traveling:I believe this may be what turn my life around.Seeing the world, just because I want to see the world.Alot more simpler to not make meanings out of everything,as real enjoyment comes from experience, not pondering.I think traveling could make me realize life is worth living and not this evil world that 'certain organizations' want humans to believe.
Reading:As alot my job is literally,READING,I find this opens to new concepts ideas and worlds I have not consider.I can get lost in text breakdowns(primarily poetry and performing scripts),because I want to embody it,not just understand.Think memorizing is one way to embody, although I digress.Context is everything, while content builds everything,so as long as both are understood, this makes art extremely enjoyable to consume.
Very curious to read other hobbies!!!!!!!!!
Time to go slay some vampires!!!!!!!!
