Welcome to PoCoChapMo ‘24!
PoCoChapMo, short for Poetry Cove Chapbook Month, is an exciting and inspiring event created by Herb Hagell. Designed to provide poets with an opportunity to write their first or next chapbook, PoCoChapMo is a month-long journey of creativity, community, and poetic growth. The 2024 event runs from September 1 through September 30.
The Vision Behind PoCoChapMo
Herb Hagell envisioned PoCoChapMo as a dedicated time for poets to focus on their craft, push their creative boundaries, and connect with fellow writers. Whether you're a seasoned poet or just starting out, this event is your chance to compile a collection of poems that reflect your unique voice and vision.
We want to help you on your way to succeed in your vision for your poetry journey. For many poets, the goal of publishing hangs over them like the first time leaning in for a kiss. We are here to support you in making that leap, guiding you through the process, and celebrating your achievements.
What to Expect
Throughout the month, we have a range of activities and resources to help you on your chapbook journey:
1. Prompts and Resources:
Bi-Weekly Prompts: Every Monday and Thursday, we’ll share new prompts to inspire your writing. These will include word prompts, image prompts, and suggested forms.
Resource Guides: Access guides on writing, editing, and compiling your chapbook. These resources will help you refine your work and prepare it for publication.
2. Feedback Corner:
Constructive Critique: Share your poems in our Feedback Corner to receive constructive feedback from fellow poets. This is a great way to improve your work and gain new perspectives.
Workshopping: Participate in detailed workshopping sessions to hone your poems and get them ready for your chapbook.
3. Community and Support:
Introduce Yourself: Start by introducing yourself in our dedicated thread. Share your mission statement and connect with other participants.
Engagement: Join our daily and weekly check-ins, share your progress, and celebrate milestones with the community.
4. Helpful Meetings:
August 31: Welcome to the Challenge: In this session, we will review the intents and resources of the challenge; discuss chapbooks; and answer your questions.
September 30: Celebration and Review: A celebration and review of the month; a how-to on working with Canva to format your chapbook into a printable version; if we have time, we can talk about formatting an e-book for Kindle KDP (for example).
5. Official Chapbook Compilation:
At the end of the month, we will compile an official PoCoChapMo chapbook, featuring selected works from participants. This is a wonderful opportunity to have your work published and to be part of a collective celebration of poetry.
