Hi everyone,
I’ve been thinking about how landscapes can inspire poetry. I recently travelled to Edinburgh and climbed Arthur’s Seat, and wow—it completely blew me away! The mix of rugged hills and the city stretching out below was incredible, and it really got my creative gears turning. I even snapped a few photos I thought I’d share.
What about you? Have you ever been inspired by a specific place—a mountain, forest, or even a cityscape? I’d love to hear about the landscapes that have shaped your poetry or sparked your imagination.
Feel free to share your stories, poems, or even photos if you have them! Let’s talk about the places that make us want to grab a pen and write.
When I first came down Highway 1 in Northern California, ten years ago, what struck me was the size and formidable vastness of the Pacific Ocean. I don’t have any photos, but the memory is sharp and vivid! I’ve never seen anything, size-wise, that’s comparable. At that particular moment,I saw my mortality and how insignificant I was as a human being. The length of California is nine humdred miles, and the ocean reaches further south than that and stretches beyond the horizon. It gives you pause to consider how infinite Nature is in comparison to our mortal selves. It allows you to recognize that beauty exists all over the world and, as observers and chroniclers of its expanses, it’s our job to note, highlight, and particularize the awesomeness with which Nature has transformed, continues to alter, and re-identifies the meaning and presentation of beauty. The world’s continual and continuous evolution gives us all inexhaustible material with which to craft our own, unique and singular visions! Intense, observant, and careful study of anything—even a leaf—brings endless possibilities for all forms of writing! However, poetry is the power that brings the greatest and most direct questions to mind because of its brevity, succinctness, and circumspection!
