GloPoWriMo (Better known as NaPoWriMo, or National Poetry Writing Month), is an annual project in which participating poets attempt to write a poem a day for April.
Think of it as a 30-day marathon! The Poetry Cove will be participating for its third year, guiding and supporting our members throughout!
Good luck, and see you at the starting line!
I didn't know about this in April, but on May 1st, I started posting on my insta one haiku I write, worked into personal photography each day, in a wayfor mental health awareness May. I am almost halfway through the month and feeling good!
Day 12 Prompt: "The Poetry of Places"
Today, choose a specific place that you encounter regularly but might often overlook—the corner store, a park bench, the bus stop, or even your own kitchen. Take a moment to really observe this place, considering all its details and the various interactions or events that occur there.
Write a poem that uncovers the hidden magic or significance of this everyday location. What stories could these places tell if they had the ability to speak? What kind of characters frequent these spots, and what are their stories?
Explore the sensory details—the sights, sounds, smells—that give this place its unique atmosphere. Maybe there’s a particular time of day when the light hits it just right, or a unique sound that marks the passage of time there.
Your poem can be a snapshot that captures the essence of this place, a narrative that weaves through the different characters and their lives, or a personal reflection on what this place means to you and how it influences your daily routine.
Happy writing! Let this prompt help you find the extraordinary in the ordinary, and bring the poetry of everyday places to life.
