Welcome to the prompt section for this year's GloPoWriMo! Here you will find a prompt for each day of the month (or at least as best as I can). If you come up with any prompts yourself, please feel free to share them also. The more prompts we have the more food for thought there is! If you've written a poem inspired by one of our prompts we would love for you to share it in the poetry section here:

Hey Covers, We’ve all got them—the poems that start off strong but then fizzle out, or the ones we half-write and just can’t seem to finish. Some sit quietly in a notebook or on a forgotten file, waiting for us to revisit them… or maybe they’re left to gather dust forever! What’s your process when it comes to unfinished or “abandoned” poems? Do you regularly go back and try to rework them, or do you prefer to leave them be? Have you ever rediscovered an old draft and turned it into something completely new? I’d love to know how you handle these stray poems. Are they part of your creative process, or do you just move on and write something fresh? Let’s chat about it—maybe you’ll even be inspired to rescue a forgotten gem from your own drawer! ,

Hey poets, When you sit down to write a poem, who is it really for? Do you write as a personal outlet, capturing your thoughts and emotions just for yourself? Or do you craft your words with an audience in mind, hoping to connect, inspire, or even challenge readers? Maybe it’s a mix of both? Some poets find that writing is deeply personal, almost like a diary, while others love the idea of their work being shared, performed, or published. Do you ever adjust your writing style depending on whether a poem will stay private or be shared? And if you do share, how does knowing others will read it affect the way you write? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. Do you write for yourself, for an audience, or somewhere in between? Let’s discuss!

Hey everyone, We all have those little things that bring us comfort after a long day—whether it’s a cozy ritual, a favourite hobby, or just something that helps us unwind. For me, it’s sitting with a hot drink and watching the world go by, especially if it’s raining outside. There’s something about the sound of rain that instantly makes everything feel calmer. Even better late at night in a hot tub! (Must get mine repaired!!!) What’s your go-to comfort activity? Do you have a favorite book you always reread, a TV show that never fails to lift your mood, or maybe a creative outlet that helps you reset? Let’s share the small things that bring us peace—who knows, you might even pick up a new relaxation habit! Looking forward to hearing what keeps you grounded!

Hi everyone, I’ve been thinking about how landscapes can inspire poetry. I recently travelled to Edinburgh and climbed Arthur’s Seat, and wow—it completely blew me away! The mix of rugged hills and the city stretching out below was incredible, and it really got my creative gears turning. I even snapped a few photos I thought I’d share. What about you? Have you ever been inspired by a specific place—a mountain, forest, or even a cityscape? I’d love to hear about the landscapes that have shaped your poetry or sparked your imagination. Feel free to share your stories, poems, or even photos if you have them! Let’s talk about the places that make us want to grab a pen and write.

The question of “when is the right time to publish?” is something many of us grapple with. Whether it’s your first chapbook, a full poetry collection, or even submitting to a magazine or anthology, deciding when you’re ready can feel like a big, daunting step. Let’s dive into this topic together and explore all sides of it. Here are a few questions to consider: 1. Personal Readiness: How do you know when your work is ready to be shared with the world? Is it about reaching a certain level of confidence, receiving feedback, or simply taking the leap of faith? 2. External Validation: Do you feel that seeking feedback or critiques is necessary before publishing? How much weight do you give to others’ opinions about your work versus your own feelings? 3. Timing vs. Perfection: Some say “you’re never really ready” while others believe it’s worth waiting until your work feels polished. Where do you fall on this spectrum? 4. Motivations for Publishing: Are you publishing for personal fulfillment, to reach an audience, or for professional goals? How do your motivations influence your timing? 5. Lessons Learned: If you’ve already published something, what helped you decide it was the right time? Were there things you wish you had done differently? Publishing can feel like a big leap, but it’s also an exciting milestone. Let’s share our thoughts, experiences, and advice with each other. Whether you’re contemplating your first publication or reflecting on your journey so far, your perspective can help others on their path. What does the “right time” to publish look like for you? Let’s discuss and support one another in making this important decision. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Welcome to the PoCoChapMo ‘24 Feedback Corner! This thread is dedicated to gaining constructive feedback and workshopping your poems. Whether you're looking for a fresh perspective, suggestions for improvement, or simply want to share your work, this is the place for you. How to Use the Feedback Corner Sharing Your Work: 1. Post Your Poem: Share the poem you’d like feedback on. Be sure to include any specific areas where you’re seeking advice (e.g., structure, imagery, tone). 2. Context: If helpful, provide a brief context or background for your poem. This can include the prompt you used or your inspiration. 3. Be Respectful: Remember that sharing poetry can be a vulnerable experience. Offer support and encouragement alongside your critique. Giving Feedback: 1. Be Constructive: Focus on providing helpful and specific feedback. Highlight what works well in the poem and suggest areas for improvement. 2. Be Respectful: Always approach feedback with kindness and respect. Remember, the goal is to help each other grow as poets. 3. Be Specific: Offer detailed observations and suggestions. For example, instead of saying “I didn’t like this part,” try “I think the imagery here could be stronger by adding more sensory details.” Workshop Guidelines Workshopping Poems: 1. Detailed Reviews: If you’d like a more in-depth critique, mention this when you post your poem. Fellow poets can then take the time to provide a thorough review. 2. Revisions: Feel free to post revised versions of your poems based on the feedback you receive. This can help track your progress and show how your work evolves. 3. Ask Questions: Don’t hesitate to ask specific questions about your poem or the feedback you receive. Clarifying questions can lead to more insightful critiques. Example Post Poem: Whispers of the Night In the stillness, shadows dance, Whispers weave a silent trance. Moonlight casts a silver hue, Dreams awaken, pure and true. Context: This poem was inspired by a word prompt about “night.” I’m particularly looking for feedback on the imagery and flow. Feedback Given: • Positive: “I love the imagery in the first line; it sets a mysterious tone.” • Constructive: “The second line feels a bit vague. Maybe adding a more specific detail about the shadows could enhance the image.” Engage and Support This Feedback Corner is not just about receiving feedback but also about giving it. Take the time to read and respond to others’ poems. Your insights can be incredibly valuable and help foster a sense of community. We’re here to grow together as poets. Let’s make the most of this space by supporting each other with thoughtful and constructive feedback. Happy writing and sharing!

Last night, we had a great stream that sparked a lengthy and heartfelt discussion about vulnerability in poetry. It was such a rich conversation that I thought it would be great to bring it to the forum for everyone to jump in. Vulnerability is at the core of many powerful poems. Writing honestly about our deepest feelings and experiences can create a strong connection with readers. However, it also comes with its challenges. How do we balance being raw and honest in our work while protecting ourselves from potential emotional harm? Let's talk about the different aspects of vulnerability as poets. Here are a few points to get us started: 1. Writing Honestly: Sharing your true feelings and experiences can make your poetry more authentic and relatable. What are some techniques you use to tap into your emotions and write from the heart? 2. Protecting Ourselves: While it's important to be open, we also need to safeguard our mental health. How do you handle writing about traumatic experiences? Do you have any strategies to prepare yourself before diving into such topics? 3. The Power of Vulnerability: There's something incredibly powerful about exposing your true self through poetry. How has being vulnerable in your writing impacted you and your readers? Vulnerability in poetry can be both cathartic and daunting. Let's share our experiences, tips, and thoughts on navigating this delicate balance. How do you embrace vulnerability in your work, and what advice would you give to fellow poets who might be hesitant to open up? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
